Good news

A new state law took effect in New York stopping local cops from signing cooperation agreements with ICE agents. In Michigan, a federal judge dismissed the Trump administration’s lawsuit against Washtenaw County. The administration filed the lawsuit in April over county policies that limit the extent to which local law enforcement can cooperate with ICE.
A federal judge upheld a pause on border wall construction at Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in Alamo, Texas for allegedly “interfering and altering the property, canals and related irrigation infrastructure.”
A new coalition of more than 600 public, private, and nonprofit-sector organizations is joining together to save monuments from Trump’s destruction and stop his administration from dismantling the National Historic Preservation Act.

After months of public comment about data sharing and oversight, Asheville, NC’s City Council voted 5–2 in a packed, heated meeting to cancel the city’s contract with Flock Safety. Also, the City of Tempe, AZ announced that it has turned off its Flock license plate reader cameras and plans to end its contract with the company. In all, as of this week,more than 100 local governments across the US have canceled or declined to renew their city’s Flock or other ALPR contracts since 2025.
