Good news
Just today: The Supreme Court rejects Trump's bid to restrict mail ballots for the midterm elections, with Alito and Thomas dissenting (naturally). Coincidentally, I received my absentee ballot just today.
On September 9, the Sauk Prairie Police Commission unanimously voted to terminate Flock Safety’s contract with the Sauk Prairie Police Department, effective immediately.
A federal court rejected Trump’s order keeping an old and polluting Michigan coal plant open.
The Texas Supreme Court knocked down implementation of a vote-suppressing redistricting plan officials adopted in Galveston County after the state’s March primaries, saying it cannot be used in November.
A new Cook Political Report/Univision survey of Texas Hispanic likely voters finds the Democratic candidates in the state’s Senate and gubernatorial contests leading their GOP opponents by a 2-1 margin.
The city of Denver sued DHS and ICE to keep armed immigration agents away from polling places this November.
VoteVets, the largest Democratic veterans group in the U.S., launched a new messaging campaign against Trump’s planned arch across from Arlington National Cemetery.
The contractor hired to renovate the Reflecting Pool admitted that its repair work—not vandals— caused the pool’s liner to peel and bubble.
A new digital publication will report on Washington politics, the community, follow local sports, and reunite The Weather Guys (as well as many other former WaPo reporters.) Their backer is Politico founder Robert Allbritton. The Washington Sun (formerly NOTUS) beefed up staff and is raring to go. Check them out.
A unanimous federal appeals panel upheld a block on the IRS sharing confidential taxpayer data with ICE, ruling the agency violated a Watergate-era privacy law when it handed over more than 47,000 taxpayer addresses.
The Supreme Court blocked a Missouri congressional map drawn to benefit Republicans from going into effect for the 2026 midterms. No justices dissented from the decision.

1. Check your voter registration today.

2. Let Sauk County know you want a moratorium on data centers.
If you are unable to attend the September 15, 6 pm County Board Meeting where a moratorium on accepting development permit applications for data centers will be discussed, you can send your comments to Becky Evert (becky.evert@saukcountywi.gov) and Tim McCumber (Timothy.mccumber@saukcountywi.gov).

3. Make plans to vote early for the November elections (and encourage others to do so).
This is the best way to ensure that your vote is counted. In Wisconsin, early in-person voting starts October 20, but the hours to vote may vary by municipality.
On October 17, a number of actions will take place across the nation to encourage early voting (more to come.)
4. Canvas or write postcards to voters who don't vote regularly

This concert of patriotic and protest music will be a musical trek across United States history in times of peace and times of war. It will be highlighted with excerpts of inspiring quotations. Local musicians and readers will perform the musical pieces and readings. This concert will be co-sponsored by First United Methodist Church, Indivisible Baraboo, Indivisible Sauk Prairie, and Reedsburg Area Concerned Citizens.
