Action Alert

As of tomorrow, September 29, there are 35 days until the November Election. Make your plan to vote early and encourage your friends to do so, too. See action item #4 below. Wisconsin Early Voting starts October 20.

Good news

  • For the past two years, men incarcerated in Redgranite Correctional Institution in central Wisconsin have helped raise and release Monarch butterflies in an effort to boost the declining population.

  • Racine city officials want to build 34 homes on a vacant, former school site and offer $50,000 down payment assistance grants to school district employees and city employees to purchase homes there. The financial assistance would come from Tax Incremental District funds.

  • Immigration 101, a Sauk County event, raised at least $15,000 for the Community Immigration Law Center to provide legal representation for immigrants facing deportation. See attached recap.

  • A growing number of Republicans are publicly breaking with Trump, a sign that a party normally in lockstep views him as a liability in the midterms.

  • The Iowa Farmers Union endorsed Democrats in all federal elections.

  • The California Supreme Court ordered a county sheriff, Chad Bianco, to return about 650,000 ballots he seized from election officials as part of an investigation into voter fraud that state officials said had no basis in fact.

  • New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the city had planted more than 18,000 trees, the most in a single year in a decade, with most of the trees planted in neighborhoods vulnerable to extreme heat.

  • An anonymous tip line started by Sandy Hook families has helped prevent 20 school shootings since 2018.

  • A federal judge in Alabama temporarily barred immigration officers from entering construction sites without a warrant and detaining workers without reasonable suspicion that they live in the country illegally.

  • The Supreme Court again blocked Missouri from using a congressional map in November that was redrawn to give Republicans an edge in the midterm elections.

  • The NAACP filed a lawsuit in federal court to ensure the Trump admin doesn’t violate federal law by sending armed federal agents to voting sites. It follows a similar lawsuit filed earlier this month by good government groups in conjunction with the city of Denver.

  • Three organizations representing thousands of ranchers in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas issued a joint statement warning ICE operations are disrupting the agricultural community and will make beef prices spike again.

  • 550,000 people registered or updated their voter registration as a result of National Voter Registration Day.

  • One month after a Honduran migrant was deported to a country in Africa that is not his country of origin, a federal judge in Colorado has ordered the U.S. government to return him to the United States and be released.
